Pittsburgh police are warning residents on the South Side to stay indoors

Pittsburgh police are warning residents on the South Side to stay indoors and call 911 if they hear recordings that sound like a baby crying or a child asking for help outside their homes.

A local reporter says people living on the South Side are ‘freaked out’ as Pittsburgh authorities continue to investigate multiple instances where people reported the eerie baby crying sounds.

Police have confirmed that they ‘have received four reports from different areas of the South Side’ from callers who have claimed to hear what sounded like recordings of a crying baby or a child’s voice.

But each time officers have been dispatched to investigate, they did not hear the sounds themselves and have been unable to discover its source.

The Daily Mail reported that locals chimed in on Twitter also reported hearing the sounds, with one person claiming, “My husband heard this on 3 separate spread out occasions the last being over the summer,” adding, “It was a girls voice in the distance saying help me.

Two sorority sisters who heard the noises outside their residence, said they make sure none of them are alone outside until police can determine where the purported recordings are coming from.

The reporter said that “obviously the people who live in the apartments where this is happening are freaked out.”

TuskerDaily.com contacted people who we know living in this area and the consensus is these college students are most likely hearing either a Bobcat, Fox or a Coyote which frequent this area of Pittsburgh hunting down rats and mice.

Personally I believe residence’s are hearing cats in the midst of fighting, or a cat in heat looking for a mate.

If you ever heard a cat in heat or warning off another adversary their high pitch sounds can easily get mistaken for a crying baby.

I, myself frequently rescue cats and every winter I build shelters in my backyard for our area’s local feral cats who refuse to come indoors.

Despite my experience, I can’t tell you how many times I still run outside thinking I heard a baby crying or child in distress only to discover a male cat trying to get his groove on.

If you never heard cats making these eerily strange noises, watch the videos below of two cats trying to warn the other that if they don’t back off they’re ready to rumble.

I’m sure it’ll come as quite a shock to you how similar they sound to a baby crying, especially when thier cries get mixed in with other ambient noises.

FYI: if you come across two cats ready to fight, just bang on something or scream at them and that’ll end the fight immediately with the cats simply running off in opposite directions.
